All patients 17 or younger will need a parent or guardian to be at their appointment to sign all consents for surgery. For the patients seeing us for wisdom teeth or multiple extractions, please read through the following description of anesthesia choices so an informed decision can be made as to what would be suitable for your situation.

You have several choices as to the type of anesthesia for a given procedure. The doctor will discuss these choices with you.

  • Local anesthesia is an injection or injections to anesthetize the area where treatment is being performed.
  • Nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas) is a gas inhaled through your nose and is used along with local anesthesia to decrease anxiety and awareness of any discomfort during a procedure. This is generally not paid for by insurance.
  • IV sedation  (conscious sedation) is medications given intravenously along with local anesthesia to produce a level of sedation where the patient is still awake but somewhat sleepy for the procedure. You must have a consultation appointment prior to having IV sedation for medical clearance. If you are having a procedure done under IV sedation, you will be unable to drive home afterward and will need to have a responsible driver accompany you and stay in the office during surgery to ensure your safe transport afterward. You will be given specific pre and post-operative instructions depending on the procedure and the type of anesthesia you are having. This type of anesthesia in my office is conscious sedation.
  • General Anesthesia/Deep Sedation/Moderate Sedation– THESE OUTPATIENT ANESTHESIA SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE AND PROVIDED AT LAKELAND REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER IN ST. JOSEPH. This is A LEVEL OF ANESTHESIA in which YOU ARE TOTALLY ASLEEP OR FEEL THAT WAY and the anesthesiologist assists with your breathing throughout the surgery.

We also ask that you make sure to have your x-ray at your appointment and a referral has been provided by your referring dentist, orthodontist, or physician, if these are available.

Please bring all insurance information with you and we will verify benefits for you during your appointment and will be collecting any deductibles and co-pays on the day of your appointment. If you have any questions, please contact us at any time.
